A street in Halifax’s north end has reopened after police conducted a search related “to an ongoing investigation” Thursday afternoon.

Cunard Street was closed to traffic in the 5600 block, between Agricola and Gottingen streets, for about two hours. Police were asking people to avoid the area and traffic was rerouted.

There was a heavy police presence in the area, with police stating they were “conducting an operation.”

Halifax Regional Police Const. Martin Cromwell told CTV News officers were “conducting a search in relation to an ongoing investigation,” but said the investigation is not related to the deaths of two people on Gottingen Street on New Year’s Eve, as some have speculated online.

“There are no further details I can provide at this time as the investigation is ongoing,” said Cromwell about Thursday’s search.

Cunard Street reopened around 3:30 p.m.
