Police have impounded a Tesla Cybertruck and suspended an Ontario driver after they were caught driving nearly double the speed limit in a 60 km/h zone, police say.

The high-speed traffic stop happened on Wednesday while officers with the Peel Police Road Safety Services were on patrol in Brampton.

That’s when police say they spotted a Tesla Cybertruck speeding in a 60 km/h zone.

The driver was clocked travelling at over 110 km/h, police said.

Peel police say the 29-year-old driver from the Bolton community of Caledon was charged with stunting and speeding-related offences.

The Cybertruck was impounded for 14 days while the driver from Bolton had their license suspended for 30 days.

Police say anyone who spots a suspected unsafe, suspicious or impaired driver can contact officers when safe to do so by calling 911. Anonymous tips may also be provided to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
