Damaged ferry set to return to service on Lake Ontario [Video]

Commuters and visitors to Wolfe Island will be happy to hear the Wolfe Islander IV – damaged just three months after entering service last summer – is ready to return to work, with the plan to bring the ferry from the Ontario Shipyards in Hamilton to Kingston on Wednesday.

The new electric ferry went into full service in August but on December 4 the ship ran aground, tearing a 30-cem gash in the hull and damaging two thrusters.

The ferry had to be towed to Hamilton via tugboats in December and with repairs now complete it will be returned back to Kingston – with the help of the McKeil tug Wyatt M – on April 30, weather permitting.

The ferry operates between Marysville on Wolfe Island and the foot of Queen Street in Kingston, with each round trip taking about 80 minutes.
