A 17-year-old driver is facing charges after being caught speeding and driving dangerously on Highway 401 in eastern Ontario Friday evening, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Police say the G2 driver was stopped after clocking 201 km/h and making unsafe lane changes on the highway westbound at Gananoque, about 165 kilometres southwest of Ottawa.

The driver also clocked 153 km/h in a 30 km/h zone while taking the ramp at Gananoque, police say.

Officers note that this driver is facing dangerous and stunt driving charges. They are also facing vehicle impoundment and licence suspension.

In Ontario, excessive speeding comes at a high cost, as drivers caught speeding 50 km/h or more over the speed limit, could face a court summons, in addition to an expensive ticket.
