Dauphin County municipalities announce new study to examine local EMS challenges [Video]

A recent study by the Upper Dauphin Council of Governments shows that 50% of municipal officials worry that their local EMS providers are at risk of closing.

HALIFAX, Pa. — Amid an increase in concerns, a group of northern Dauphin County municipalities are coming together to protect their regional EMS services.

“It is a crisis, and it is a critical time for us right now,” said Chris Dietz, president of the Upper Dauphin Council of Governments.

This week, the Upper Dauphin Council of Governments announced it was launching a new study to address the challenges facing its EMS providers. According to a recent study by the council, 50% of municipal officials believe local EMS providers are at risk of closing.

“One of the local providers came to a couple of municipalities and said, ‘Hey, we’ve dwindled down our nest egg and we’re about to be at zero,'” said Dietz.
