Builders across the Piedmont have been closely monitoring tariff developments. WXII spoke with one nonprofit who said current tariffs could impact the construction of homes needed in Guilford County. Off of Freeman Mill Road sits more than six acres of land meant to become affordable homes, but federal tariffs impacting material prices could impact the speed at which these potential homes are built and how affordable they really are. “Once this ball starts rolling, you just can’t stop it,” said Scott Jones. “You can’t kick it back in reverse. It’s going to have to play out.” Jones is the executive director of Tiny House Community Development.
