A series of thefts leading to fraudulent activity is emerging in Ontario, police say.

According to the Brant County OPP detachment, on March 14, officers responded to several incidents involving wallet thefts near a local business in the area.

Police say that in both incidents, targeted individuals were approached in parking lots and were engaged in casual conversation with the perpetrator.

In both incidents, the victims reported that the perpetrator would steer the conversation around some form of ‘issue’ with the target’s vehicle.

After addressing concerns, the victims later found out that their wallets were missing. It was then reported that fraudulent transactions were made using stolen debit and credit cards.

Police are encouraging all residents to remain vigilant about their surroundings and who approaches them in public areas — especially in parking lots.

Brant County OPP officials are encouraging anyone with information on the alleged perpetrator to come forward …
