Dominican citizen Luis Soriano received a 15-month sentence for smuggling individuals across the border.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Dominican Republic citizen has been sentenced after helping move people illegally across the U.S.-Canada border.
Luis Davis German Soriano, 32, was sentenced Thursday to time served—about 15 months—by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo. After Soriano was sentenced, he was handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Western District of New York’s Office, the initial incident began on January 3, 2024. Investigators say Soriano drove from New Jersey to Youngstown, NY, to pick up Silvestre German Andujar and three others who were not U.S. citizens or nationals. The group had crossed the Niagara River on a motorized raft from Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, Canada. Official say Andujar was the one who was driving the raft.
