Downtown Calgary fire sends person to hospital [Video]

A person was sent to hospital in life-threatening condition after a fire in downtown Calgary on Tuesday morning.

EMS crews were called to the 1200 block of Sixth Street S.W. around 9:30 a.m. for an apartment building fire.

When fire crews arrived on scene, they found smoke coming from a 17th-floor apartment. Firefighters forced their way into the unit and were able to get the fire under control.

Fire crews brought an adult patient out of the building to EMS crews. They were then taken to hospital in critical and life-threatening condition, according to EMS.

There were no other patients treated at the scene.

Fire crews could be seen up on a balcony several floors up with smoke coming out of one unit. The Calgary Fire Department believes the fire started in the bedroom of the unit, but investigators are still working to determine a cause.
