FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WFOR) – A 41-year-old man from Quebec was killed in a boat explosion at the Lauderdale Marina in Florida Monday night. The accident sent six other people to the hospital.
Video shows the response from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue after a 37-foot vessel exploded into flames at the marina.
“I was sitting on the balcony and all of a sudden the smoke comes across,” neighbor Janet Lamp said.
Authorities said the explosion happened just before 6 p.m.
“It was just kind of a big explosion. I felt the vibrations like through my body,” witness Nate Hall said.
Another witness, Tamer Dimiati, said he saw the top half of the boat fly up about 10 feet in the air and come right back down.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue received several 911 calls about the boat fire. Investigators said the flames spread quickly to a second boat.
