Troopers said the woman was “bleeding profusely” due to cuts from the broken glass of her windshield.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol troopers are searching for the person who shot at a driver suffering a medical emergency on Interstate 275.

Troopers responded around 5 p.m. Monday to the southbound lanes of I-275 in Hillsborough County.

According to FHP, a 63-year-old Lutz woman suffered a medical emergency and lost control of her GMC Yukon, causing the SUV to leave the roadway and crash into the Milepost 57 road sign. 

After that crash, the SUV swerved back onto the interstate and hit an unknown silver or white mid-sized SUV.

The woman was then shot at by an unknown person who fled the scene.

Troopers said they found the woman “bleeding profusely” and applied life-saving measures.
