It could not have come at a worse time.

That’s the feeling of many travellers who were planning to spend the Mother’s Day weekend in Niagara Falls.

Since late Friday, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) shut down two of the four Niagara-bound lanes of the QEW over the Burlington Skyway to carry out maintenance work.

Some say it has created chaos.

“THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!! IT HAS TAKEN MY THREE HOURS JUST TO GO A FEW KILOMETRES,” said one traveller who took to social media to shout out their displeasure today (May 11).

The timing was especially frustrating for those who were trying to take mom out to see The Falls on her special day.

“I knew this was happening, so we thought we would take the trip on Saturday, thinking it would be less busy, BUT NO!!!!,” said Amy Silva of Oakville. She said she tried again today, but the traffic was even worse.

Silva said she had been forewarned about the lane closures through a story posted last week
