Drone photographs of U.S. military sites lead to charges against Brampton, Ontario man [Video]

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed charges against a Brampton man after a drone was used to photograph sensitive American military installations.

Charges stem from photographs taken in January at Cape Canaveral Space Force Base in Florida.

According to United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg, on three separate occasions, aerial photographs were taken by an unmanned aircraft of a space launch complex, a payload processing facility, a submarine wharf, and munitions bunkers.

Taking unauthorized photographs of vital defence installations or equipment is prohibited under U.S. federal law.

Charged is Xiao Guang Pan, 71, from Brampton.

The DOJ said Pan entered the United States on a tourist visa and is not currently detained. He is expected to appear in court later this week.

This case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Customs and Border …
