Eight people arrested in connection with armed assault and unlawful detention [Video]

Montreal police (SPVM) is investigating an armed assault and unlawful detention that occurred on Friday in the Ville Marie borough.

According to the SPVM, the victim, a man in his 30s, called 911 around 8:45 a.m., reporting that they were being held against their will in an apartment on Dorion Street near Rene-Levesque Boulevard.

Police officers quickly intervened and were able to locate and rescue the victim.

An SPVM spokesperson said the victim was transported to hospital to treat serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

In total, eight individuals were arrested. Their ages are not yet known.

They will be transported to a detention centre to meet with investigators, who will work to determine the circumstances of the incident and their involvement.

The link between all of the people involved has not yet been determined.

The investigation is ongoing.
