Members of the Essex County OPP laced up their skates Sunday afternoon to drop the puck against former NHL players.

The annual NHL Alumni hockey game was played at the Essex Centre Sports Complex in front of a crowd of a couple hundred.

Jim Chauvin, an Essex County OPP Constable and game coordinator, said the funds raised from admission support Special Olympics Ontario.

“So, this game is played in several cities throughout the province, and most games raise approximately $10,000 per game,” Chauvin said, adding that 8 to 10 games are played in various communities yearly.

Chauvin said last year Special Olympics Ontario raised $1 million through the various events they run.

“Our local athletes compete in various levels of games, including local, provincial, national and world games as well,” he said.
