OPP clocked a driver travelling at 178 km/h on Highway 407.

A car speeding along a highway through Brampton hit some top speeds, but didn’t break any records

According to the OPP, the driver was clocked on radar going 178 km/h on Highway 407 near Mavis Road on Sunday.

The driver was charged with stunt driving, which in Ontario means travelling at an excessive speed. Fines for stunt driving can range from $2,000 to $10,000, and repeat offenders can spend up to six months in jail.

In addition, the driver’s license was immediately suspended for 30 days, and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

The name of the driver has not been released.

While 178 km/h sounds excessive, it didn’t break any records.

One of the highest recorded speeds on Highway 407 occurred last July when a Lamborghini traveling at over 200 km/h was caught on the highway near Dufferin Street.
