At first, Maria Elizabeth Castillo thought she won $1,000.

She was wrong.

The Brampton resident says she is a long-time lottery player, so when she checked her ticket for the Feb. 8 Ontario 49 draw she was just happy that she won some cash.

“I’d purchased my Ontario 49 ticket on the day of the draw and checked it the following day,” Castillo recounted. “I checked my ticket, using the OLG app, and thought I’d won $1,000.”

But when she showed the results to her husband, he told her she had won much more than $1,000…it was $1 million.

“So I headed to the store to have my ticket validated. When it was confirmed, I’d actually won $1 million on Encore, it was an emotional moment. I felt so happy and blessed,” she said.

She was able to claim $1 million because she matched all seven Encore numbers in the exact order.
