The frigid weather continues to grip Saskatoon and parts of Saskatchewan as the extreme cold warnings are in effect across the prairies.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Saturday morning wind chill values are again expected to reach near minus 40C in much of the prairies.

On Friday, many areas remained under an extreme cold warning as bitterly cold temperatures persisted.

The bitterly cold weather is expected to be moderating gradually west to east starting on Sunday in western Saskatchewan and ending Monday in eastern Manitoba.

These frigid temperatures pose a serious health risk and residents are urged to take precautions, ECCC says.

“Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant. Synthetic and wool fabrics provide good insulation. Cover up,” ECCC said.
