Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued extreme cold warnings for parts of Manitoba on Monday, saying wind chills could dip below -40 in some communities.

ECCC is warning those in northern communities, including Brochet and Tadoule Lake, that a “bitterly cold air mass” has caused temperatures to drop into the -30s. These freezing cold temperatures mixed with 10 to 15 km/h winds will give extreme wind chills around -45.

The weather agency notes that these extreme wind chills will remain until Monday night into Tuesday morning before warmer temperatures move into the area.

Parts of southern Manitoba, including Brandon, are also under extreme cold warnings.

Temperatures are expected to moderate later on Monday morning; however, wind chills are expected to drop into the -30s on Monday …
