An extreme cold warning is in effect for part of southern Ontario, with very cold temperatures set to move in.
Environment Canada has issued the warning for northern parts of the Greater Toronto Area, the Barrie area and parts of Cottage Country.
A cold front will be moving from north to south over the region Friday evening, the weather agency said.
“Minimum temperatures near -20 C combined with northerly winds up to 20 km/h will give wind chill values near -30 for several hours on Saturday morning,” the warning said.
“Temperatures will remain cold on Saturday; however temperatures and wind chill values will begin to improve Saturday afternoon through Saturday night.”
Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, the weather agency warned.
In areas of southern Ontario not covered by the warning, it’s still expected to get cold.
