Fatal crash in Gaines County kills driver [Video]

GAINES COUNTY, Texas — One person is dead and another is in serious condition after a crash in Gaines County on Saturday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The fatal crash happened at the intersection of State Highway 83 and County Road 217 at 12:30 p.m..

DPS said preliminary information revealed that 49-year-old Bobby Trevino, driving a 2003 GMC Yukon XL, was going eastbound on SH 83 and failed to maintain a single lane. This caused Trevino to veer off the roadway.

According to DPS, Trevino then over-corrected, causing the vehicle to veer across the roadway, strike a fence and roll over.

Trevino died at the scene. Trevino’s passenger, 43-year-old Misty Jones, was taken to UMC Lubbock in serious condition.

It was reported by DPS that Trevino was not wearing a seatbelt, and Jones was.
