Fatal fire on Sandwich Street investigated [Video]

One person has died after an early morning fire on Sandwich Street.

Windsor Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief of Operations Jamie Waffle told CTV News the Ontario Fire Marshal will be attending the scene to aid in the investigation.

Crews were dispatched to the 3000 block of Sandwich Street around 6:30 a.m. for a fire at a three-storey apartment building.

One person was transported to hospital with serious injuries where they were pronounced dead.

Waffle said the cause of the fire has not been determined.

Shortly after 8 a.m., Windsor Fire said fire crews along with members of the Windsor Police Service would be holding the scene.

The fire remains under investigation.
