There could be hazardous conditions on roads with a travel advisory and snowfall up to 12 cm possible in southern Ontario to start the weekend.

Environment Canada says snow and a fast-moving low pressure system are expected to roll into Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, Hamilton, Durham and much of southern Ontario on Saturday.

A winter travel advisory is in effect for Saturday afternoon through to the evening with snowfall between 8 to 12 cm in Mississauga and Brampton, and up to 10 cm in Toronto.

It could be the start of the biggest snowstorm of the season for the GTA, while communities further north near Georgian Bay and Lake Huron have already been slammed by squalls this winter.

There’s around 5 cm of snow expected in Niagara Falls and Welland while St. Catharines could see up to 10 cm.
