After emptying her cargo, the Federal Nagara departed the Twin Ports and started her new journey north to Thunder Bay, Ontario.

DULUTH, Minn. — To this sea-faring vessel, all the world’s her oyster.

And the Marshall Islands’ Federal Nagara shipping vessel proved as much when it cruised through Duluth Monday morning, marking the arrival of the first “saltie” to sail into the Twin Ports this season.

“The first ocean-going vessel of the season reinforces the importance of global trade to the port of Duluth-Superior,” said Duluth Seaway Port Authority Executive Director Deb Deluca. “Indeed, that global trade is very much part of our life’s blood.”

Duluth NBC-affiliate KBJR was there when the ship came in, and stayed for the annual celebration in which Deluca presented gifts to the ship’s captain and crew to welcome them.
