A fire at Brandon’s Shoppers Mall on Monday has forced the closure of several stores and the cancellation of Santa pictures for the season.

According to the Brandon Fire and Emergency Services, crews responded to the fire around 8:20 a.m. on Monday.

Though initial reports were of smoke in the ventilation system, the fire was traced to a wall in one of the stores. The fire breached the wall and activated the sprinkler system, which helped to extinguish the flames. Firefighters managed to quickly get the remaining flames under control.

In a Facebook post from Tuesday, the mall said some of its stores, as well as the Western Manitoba Regional Library, are closed until further notice. Photos with Santa have also been cancelled for the season.

No one was physically hurt in the fire and there are no damage estimates at this time.
