BERLIN, CT (WFSB) – The Hawthorne fire on Lamentation Mountain in Berlin has been burning for more than a week.
Tuesday, the state remained under a state of emergency due to dry conditions and a lack of rainfall.
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection warned residents to be mindful of potential fire ignition sources.
Crews continued to work on Lamentation Mountain where 120 to 130 acres burned.
In the past week, DEEP has had to battle multiple fires across the state.
To assist local firefighters and address flare-ups around Connecticut, additional teams from outside the state were brought in.
A 20-person crew from Quebec and 15 members from the New York City Fire Department helped to combat the Hawthorne fire.
Fire crews in Berlin anticipated fighting the fire for at least another two weeks.
