RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The First Alert Weather Team has issued a First Alert Weather Day for Tuesday and Wednesday. Powerful winds 30-40 mph gusting to 60 mph are expected starting midnight Monday night/early Tuesday morning, and the National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch in response to this probability. That’s for all areas east of the Black Hills except for our far southwestern communities in Fall River and Oglala Lakota counties.

A low pressure system will deepen to our southeast near Sioux Falls. At the same time, a quick moving Canadian high builds in behind that. The resulting difference in pressure will result in strong winds building up from out of the northwest starting late Monday night. These will persist into Wednesday roughly around dinner time.
