Flash flooding closes lake trail and causes ‘significant damage’ to wetland project in Brampton [Video]

Heavy, “severe” rainfall and flash flooding have led to the temporary closure of recreational trails and access to Loafer’s Lake in Brampton, the city says.

The recently restored shoreline and trail system at Loafer’s Lake suffered “significant damage” during the spring storm that hit Brampton and southern Ontario on Wednesday, the city says.

“Effective immediately, Loafer’s Lake is closed to all public access until further notice,” the city said in a release on Friday.

Paul Palleschi Park, formerly Loafer’s Lake Park, is still open even though park access from the ’s recreational trail and Paul Palleschi rec centre is currently closed.

Residents are encouraged to access park amenities through alternate entry points while strictly avoiding closed-off areas. Parks staff will be installing closure fencing around the impacted areas by 6 pm April 4, 2025.
