PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – On Tuesday afternoon, the U.S.S. Mustin and U.S.S. Jack H. Lucas docked on the waterfront in downtown Portland to officially kick off Fleet Week.
The five-day event originated in 1907 and is among the longest active celebrations of its kind in the country, now taking place as part of the 2025 Rose Festival.
Among those represented on the Willamette River these next few days are the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Corps of Engineers, and the Royal Canadian Navy.
“It’s incredible to see this,” Hadi Mirmalek-Sani said, a tourist taking part in the events. “We were remarking about the discipline, all [the sailors] standing at attention in this hot sun. It’s really amazing.”
