Flooding possible with heavy rain, risk of thunderstorms in southern Ontario [Video]

Localized flooding is possible in southern Ontario with a system that’s set to move into the region tonight.

All of southern Ontario is under a special weather statement from Environment Canada with rain, at times heavy, in the forecast.

“Rainfall, combined with melting snow, is expected,” the weather agency said for the statement that covers the majority of the region.

“The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.”

Rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm are expected, though local amounts more than 25 mm are possible by Wednesday night.

That’s because there’s a risk of thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening, Environment Canada said.

“Localized flooding in low-lying areas and water pooling on roads is possible,” the weather agency said.
