FORT ST. JOHN –A family-run business in Fort St. John has been fined after a WorkSafe BC inspection.

It happened at a DDE Construction worksite. The company is a local homebuilder.

The inspector observed a worker installing shingles on a sloped roof.  The worker was wearing a fall protection harness but it wasn’t connected to a lifeline.

WorkSafe said there was the possibility of falling 20 feet to the ground, so a stop-work order was issued. The firm failed to ensure fall protection was used, which was a repeat and high-risk violation. The company was fined $5,466.

The amount of a WorkSafe penalty depends on the company’s history of violations and the size of its payroll. Penalties can be greater if they are deemed a higher risk.
