‘Freezin for a Reason’ polar plungers raise money for Ontario Special Olympic athletes [Video]

Nearly 150 plungers braved the cold water at the annual ‘Freezin for a Reason’ Polar Plunge in downtown Oshawa on Saturday in support of Special Olympics Ontario.

Organized every year by Durham Regional Police and the Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee, this year’s event raised more than $40,000 to benefit the province’s Special Olympic athletes – $10,000 more than last year.

A pool was set up outside the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa and filled with water just before the plungers started to arrive, with DRPS Chief Peter Moreira getting the honour of the first to jump in the icy water.

The entire DRPS command team followed, helping to make the 2025 event the most successful in history.
