The Waterloo Region and parts of southwestern Ontario are bracing for icy conditions as Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the area.

The affected areas are:

  • Waterloo Region
  • Wellington County
  • Perth County
  • Oxford County

The agency is advising those living in the affected areas to prepare for potentially hazardous travel and icy surfaces.

“Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces,” said Environment Canada. “Patchy freezing rain or freezing drizzle leading to light ice accretion on some surfaces.”

The agency predicts that the freezing rain will persist into the afternoon and then transition to drizzle as temperatures moderate through Sunday night.
