With massive snowbanks found on every street, the Ontario Provincial Police is warning people about the dangers of one fun activity.

Southern Ontario and the GTA saw huge dumps of snow this month, which remains in big piles everywhere — at least until next week when the temperatures are expected to warm up.

Children often use these snowbanks to create snow tunnels and forts and the OPP warns of the dangers of this activity if not done safely.

“With the recent snowfall and towering snowbanks, it is hard to resist the urge to dig in,” the OPP said in a press release. “But before you get too carried away with your ‘snowy palace,’ remember the potential risks, especially near roadways and driveways.”

Police said snowplows and vehicles can unexpectedly move or collapse snow tunnels or forts, which could turn a day of fun into a winter disaster.
