Funeral plans set for Pa. fire chief Dave Warfel [Video]

HALIFAX, Pa. — Funeral arrangements for the Dauphin County fire chief and forest supervisor who died last weekend while working at a wildfire training seminar at Shippensburg University have been released.

David L. Warfel, 57, of Halifax, died on May 29 while serving at the Pennsylvania Wildland Fire Academy at Shippensburg University.

The Cumberland County Coroner’s Office determined Warfel died of a cardiac-related medical event.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro on Tuesday ordered all Commonwealth flags at Pennsylvania facilities, public buildings and grounds to be lowered to half-staff to honor Warfel’s passing.

Funeral services for Warfel will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Halifax High School on 3940 Peters Mountain Road. There will be a viewing prior to the service, beginning at 9 a.m., according to Minnich Funeral..
