ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WTVY) – The Georgia Department of Natural Resources identified the body of a deceased Georgia hunter found drowned at Lake Eufaula on Monday.

22-year-old Jon Kaleb Nation, of Griffin, Georgia, was among a group of distressed duck hunters whose boat drifted from an island near Thomas Mill Creek, in the southernmost part of the lake.

Divers recovered Nation’s body after he drowned early Sunday.

At first, Nation was thought to have been with the boat. However, divers began searching for him after discovering he was not with the drifted vessel.

“This is a very tragic incident,” Henry County Sheriff Eric Blankenship said in a statement on the department’s Facebook page.

Because that part of Lake Eufaula is in Georgia, authorities from that state will investigate.

Blankenship asked for prayers for the victim’s family and praised several agencies who aided the search.
