The getaway car used by five culprits who tried to rob a Guelph jewelry store on Tuesday afternoon was stolen from Mississauga, police say.

Shortly before 2 p.m., four males used hammers to smash the glass front door and gain entry to a jewelry store in the Speedvale Avenue East and Stevenson Street North area of the city located some 70 kilometres west of Mississauga.

Guelph Police said a fifth culprit waited in the getaway vehicle while his four accomplices used the hammers to smash display cases inside the store.

However, investigators added, it’s believed the would-be robbers fled without any items.

They sped away from the area in a black Acura TLX sedan that had been reported stolen in Mississauga, police …
