Good news for Ontario motorists heading to Niagara on QEW [Video]

The good news is that construction work planned for the Burlington Skyway won’t be happening this weekend.

The bad news is that it’s happening next weekend.

Although the delay is temporary, motorists heading to The Falls and those in the Cities of Burlington and Hamilton can have a bit of a breather this weekend and should be able to enjoy a relatively congestion-free drive before the construction season heats up.

It will start again next weekend, May 30 to June 2, when two of the Niagara-bound lanes of the Skyway, which carries QEW traffic over Hamilton Harbour, will be closed so that maintenance work can be done by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO).

The last time the lanes were reduced from four to two was on Mother’s Day weekend (May 10-12), which caused traffic chaos with backups into Oakville on the QEW and major delays through Burlington as highway drivers took to local side streets to find alternative …
