BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Hours before President Trump announced his reciprocal tariffs, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro spoke at a brewery in Bethlehem. While at Fegley’s Brew Works, Shapiro reaffirmed his commitment to the state’s small businesses and cautioned the effects, he says, the tariffs would have on breweries that outsource aluminum and malted barley.

Pennsylvania ranks second in the nation for craft beer production. President Donald Trump’s tariffs, Shapiro said Wednesday, will hurt the Commonwealth’s more than 500 breweries.

“We have ingredients that come from Canada and other things that are sourced that are potentially going to be increasing overnight,” said Jeff Fegley of Fegley’s Brew Works.

Starting on Friday, the Trump administration is expected to begin a 25% tariff of all imported craft beers and empty aluminum cans. 75% of craft beer brewed in PA is sold in aluminum.
