Canadian Visitors Are a Major Driver of Erie’s Tourism Economy, but Growing Boycotts in Response to New Tariffs Could Put That at Risk
The CEO of Visit Erie shared his initial reaction upon hearing about Canadian travel protests and boycotts, expressing his disappointment over the situation. “I’m disappointed that things have even gotten to the point where Canadians are considering boycotting coming to the U.S.,” he stated.
According to the U.S. Travel Association, a Canadian travel boycott could lead to a 10% reduction in Canadian tourism, which would mean 2 million fewer visits and a staggering $2.1 billion in lost spending.
“It’s a concern. You hate to see any particular segment of your market suddenly not want to travel, and it’s not just our destination. It’s to travel to the country as a whole,” Oliver added.
