Guelph Police have arrested a man after employees at two stores said they were threatened and assaulted.

The incidents happened last week at stores downtown and on Stone Road West.

On Saturday, police were called to a business near Speedvale Avenue East and Stevenson Street North around 6 p.m.

They were told a man had left the shop without paying for merchandise and when he was confronted by an employee and a customer, he slapped a phone out of the customer’s hand.

Police arrested a 23-year-old Guelph man and charged him with theft under $5,000 and assault.

Investigators later identified the man as a suspect wanted for the previous incidents.

He was then charged with three additional counts of assault and five counts of uttering threats.
