A fight between roommates has led to an assault charge for a Guelph man.

Police were told the man and a woman were fighting over text messages on Thursday while they were inside their shared home near the intersection of Kortright Road West and Edinburgh Road South.

Investigators said the man was upset over how the woman takes care of her cat.

Police were told the woman was doing dishes in the kitchen when the man walked in and spat water in her face.

The pair began arguing and other roommates stepped in to try to break up the fight.

Guelph Police officers were then called to the home.

A 40-year-old Guelph man has been charged with assault.
