Two impaired driving charges were laid by Guelph police after more than 1,700 vehicles were checked during their Festive R.I.D.E. Program.

Between the launch in mid-November and New Year’s Eve, officers spoke with 1,726 drivers.

Six motorists had their licenses suspended for three days after registering a warning on the roadside device, indicating a blood alcohol concentration between 50 and 80 mg of alcohol in 100 mL of blood.

For comparison, officers checked 100 fewer vehicles during last year’s program, but also laid two impaired driving charges and issued six three-day suspensions.

Police are encouraging motorists not to get behind the wheel if they have consumed alcohol or drugs.
