A Toronto man faces numerous firearm, firearm trafficking and drug charges after a handgun was intercepted at a parcel screening centre at Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

Peel Regional Police say investigators with the Airport Division Criminal Investigations Bureau made the arrest shortly after a Manitoba-bound package was pulled aside for inspection last Nov. 2.

The parcel was turned over to police, who determined an illegal Glock 19 9mm handgun was inside. A prohibited magazine containing ammunition was also seized at the time.

Following what police describe as a “lengthy investigation” to determine the sender of the package, officers executed a search warrant at a Toronto home. They seized two additional handguns, ammunition and 1.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine along with quantities of suspected Percocet, methamphetamine and cannabis, police said in a news release on Friday.

Police made an arrest on May 16.
