The YMCA in northern Dauphin County is moving its childcare programs to a new location to address capacity issues.

HALIFAX, Pa. — The Northern Dauphin County YMCA is expanding after finding a new building for its childcare development programs.

The current building, located at 35 South 4th Street in Halifax, is now looking for a new tenant. The childcare center currently there will move just a few minutes away to the old Mid Penn Bank location on South 3rd Street.

For years, families have been sending their children to the “Y” for care, but the current building in Halifax is at capacity and local care is limited.

“Childcare is in crisis,” Harrisburg Area YMCA Vice President of Experience Rosie Turner said. “I don’t think that’s a secret. In upper Dauphin County, specifically, we’ve seen a lot of those full-day centers close down, so currently, we are only one of two providers to provide infant care. That’s 6 weeks to 1 year old”.
