‘Hazardous’ creek conditions expected through Thursday east of Toronto [Video]

Warming temperatures and “significant precipitation” arriving in Durham Region Wednesday through Thursday has prompted another hazardous creek condition warning from the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is tracking another low-pressure system set to move into the CLOCA watershed on Wednesday, with 25-35 mm of rain expected – potentially higher amounts in localized areas due to thunderstorms.

Stream flows are near seasonal levels but the rainfall and the remaining snowmelt will result in increased runoff and causing higher than normal water levels and flows in local creeks and streams.

Although widespread flooding is not anticipated, fast-flowing water and flooding of low-lying areas and roadways may be expected, especially in flood–prone areas.

CLOCA is asking residents – particularly young children – to stay away from all watercourses, shorelines, and structures such as bridges, culverts, and dams. Increased wave activity, elevated water levels, fast-flowing water, and slippery conditions …
