“He was a fireman’s fireman” | Friends and firefighters come together for Dave Warfel’s funeral [Video]

First responders from across the Commonwealth gathered in Halifax to remember the late fire chief.

HALIFAX, Pa. — Hundreds of first responders from across Pennsylvania came together to say goodbye to Chief Dave Warfel.

Warfel, the Carsonville Volunteer Fire Company chief and forestry official, died on May 29 while he was serving at the Pennsylvania Wildland Fire Academy in Shippensburg. 

People who came out to watch Warfel’s funeral procession said his passing came as a shock to many of his neighbors.

“He liked to make everyone laugh, and I know he would help anyone: family, friends and strangers,” said Lori Graeff, a high school classmate of Warfel. “He was really good, and it’s a loss. We’re going to miss him.”

Following Warfel’s passing, Governor Josh Shapiro ordered all flags in Pennsylvania to be lowered to half-staff.
