With Mississauga experiencing the fastest-growing rate of food bank use anywhere in Ontario last year, Food Banks Mississauga officials say they — more specifically, the people they serve — need community support more than ever before.
That’s the case, “… particularly given the economic uncertainty and potential economic pressures that will impact food bank use,” Juanita Moore, Food Banks Mississauga’s chief operating officer, said in a news release on Monday, two days before the charitable organization’s 2025 Spring Drive concludes.
Moore added it’s community efforts like the annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign, which kicked off Monday and continues until next Sunday, that greatly help the cause.
“As the cost of living continues to soar, the funds raised from this year’s Smile Cookie campaign will support the one in 13 Mississauga residents who rely on us and our network of 60-plus food programs,” she said.
