People in Mississauga, Toronto and other places across southern Ontario will soon bear witness to one of the surest — and most colourful — annual signs that spring is in full swing.

The annual blooming of cherry blossoms is on the near horizon and Sakura Watch, a website that each year monitors the blooms at High Park in Toronto, has a prediction for when the brilliant pink blooms will appear.

The call is for the blossoms to bloom in Toronto between April 29 and May 9. Historically, the cherry blossoms hit their stride around the same time just to the west, in Mississauga, as well.

Cherry blossom season, which usually arrives around mid-spring or so, is best viewed within the borders of Canada’s seventh-largest city at Kariya Park, the tranquil Japanese-style greenspace named for Mississauga’s sister city in Japan and located in the downtown core.
