Highway 17 in Surrey closes after fiery crash [Video]

A fiery crash under the Port Mann Bridge sent two people to hospital and closed part of Highway 17 in Surrey for hours Saturday.

Images from the scene show the charred remains of a white SUV with most of its front-end missing.

Emergency responders were called to the scene around 1:40 a.m. for reports that a vehicle with three occupants had struck a pole and caught fire, the Surrey Police Service said in a statement.

“BC RCMP Surrey Police Operations Support Unit officers responded and found that the three occupants, two adults and one child, had been pulled from the car by a Good Samaritan,” the SPS statement reads.

“The two adults were transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, and the child was examined by (BC Emergency Health Services) and is with family.”
